Ms. Katya Tosheva from Bulgaria
Katya Tosheva is an international artist, based in Sofia, Bulgaria, who finds her
inspiration in the culture and traditions of India. Engineer and economist by profession, she
was working in a big technological company when Indian classical dance caught her
attention. Soon she decided to follow her passion, quit the corporate world and found her
Gurus in India. At the present moment she is studying in Sofia University for a master's
degree in Indian Cultural and Social Studies and traveling to India regularly to continue
with her education in three classical forms – Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Odissi.
In Sofia, she founds a school for Indian dance, where, with great enthusiasm she
shares her knowledge with students of every age. She regularly organizes dance workshops
and lectures about Indian culture and actively participates in dance and theater projects,
festivals and cultural events in Bulgaria and abroad. She has the honor to prepare a dance
program for the visit of the President of India, as well as for a number of events organized
by the Embassy of India in Bulgaria. Her performances are highly praised in Greece,
Cyprus, Spain, France, Serbia and India, where she has aroused media interest and her
interviews have been published in some of the most widely read print and electronic media,
as well as on the government TV channels Lok Sabha and Doordashana. An interview with
Katya and her husband Rosen Genkov for BBC News was translated into Hindi, Tamil,
Telugu and exceeded 2 million views.
